5.       Bible Story:  Jesus Dies and Arises (Matthew 27-28; John 15:11-14)
It is important for young children who are learning about the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection to hear both accounts at the same time.
Do not go into a lot of detail because that can be frightening for young children.  Tell the story simply but dramatically.
Jesus loved people very much.  He loved children and grown-ups.  He helped and blessed them and made their sicknesses go away.  Jesus had helpers who walked with Him and learned from Him.  But there were people who did not love Jesus.  They did not like what he was doing.  They wanted Jesus to die.  So they made an evil plan.
They arrested Jesus when He was with His helpers.  His helpers got scared and ran away.  The men who did not like Jesus took Him to the rulers.  The rulers said, “Punish Jesus.  Jesus must die.”
Jesus had not done anything wrong.  He loved even the people who were mean to Him, but they did not love Him. They made him carry a heavy cross.  Soldiers put Jesus on the cross.  People made fun of Jesus and laughed at Him.  But Jesus still loved them.   He said, “Father, forgive the people, because they don’t know what they are doing.”
Jesus had been on the cross for a long time.  It had been a bright sunshiny day.  Suddenly the sky turned dark.  Jesus said, “My God, My God, why have You left Me all alone?”  Finally Jesus said, “ It is finished.” And Jesus died.
How sad Jesus’ friends were.  They cried.  Some friends took Jesus’ body from the cross, wrapped it in clean cloths and put it into a tomb – a place for dead people.  A big stone was rolled in front of the tomb.  The friends walked away very sadly.
But Jesus did not stay dead.  Jesus is alive!  God made Him alive again.  Early Sunday morning some women who were Jesus’ friends went to the tomb where Jesus’ body lay.  They wanted to put special ointments and perfume on Jesus’ body.  Did they have a surprise!  They did not see Jesus’ body.  They saw an angel.  The angel said, “Jesus has risen, just as He said.  Go and tell His other friends.”  The women hurried away.  Suddenly Jesus met them.  Jesus’ friends were so happy to see Him!  “Oh,” they said, “Jesus is alive!”

When we look at the cross, we remember that Jesus died because of the bad things we do.  He suffered to take away our sins.  When we look at the empty grave, we remember that God made Jesus alive again so that someday we can go to heaven to be with Him forever.
Prayer:  Thank you, Jesus, for taking away my sins.  I’m glad You are alive.  Help me love You.  Amen.

6.       Have some fun:  Rhythmic Reach
In this activity your child practices crossing the midline, an action that helps hand dominance and handwriting.  Have your child sit cross-legged facing you.  Then place a beanbag (toy, rolled sock, etc.) on the floor next to your child’s right hip.  Play a recording of relaxing music (if you want) and instruct your child to reach across his body with his left arm, pick up the beanbag, and then bring his arm back and place the beanbag on the floor next to his left hip.  Have him repeat the process using his right arm.  For an added challenge, repeat the activity using a recording of upbeat music.
