Bible Story: Philip and the Ethiopian (Acts 8:26-40)
Memory Work: Now we are children of God. 1 John 3:2
Materials: Small gift box or bag with a bottle of water
inside. You will also need the paper
with the words My favorite thing about water is _______ printed at the top of
the page as well.
Today you will help your child
appreciate the gift of water, especially as God puts water to use in Baptism,
and to grow in his/her love for God, who loves him/her enough to make him/her
His own dear child.
Show
your child the gift box or bag with the water bottle inside.
Say,
I wonder what is inside this gift?
Let’s open it and find out! (Take
out the bottle of water.) Look! It’s a bottle of water.
Continue
–Water is a gift from God. We use it
in so many ways. Ask: Can you tell me some of the things we can do with water? Jot down some of your child’s answers. Now have your child complete the paper with
the words, My favorite thing about water is_____.
Conclude: Water does lots of things. God shows His love for us by giving us water
for drinking and splashing and watering plants. But He also gives us water to user in another
very special way.
We
use God’s gift of water in Baptism. When
we are washed with the waters of Baptism, God says to us, “You are My
child. I love you. You belong to My family!”
Read the story about Philip and the Ethiopian
from your Bible, Acts 8:26-40.
Close with the following prayer.
Prayer: Thank You, God, for making us Your
children. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.
