Bible Story: Peter and the Crippled Man (Acts 3)
Memory work: Rejoice in the
Lord always. I will say it again:
Rejoice! Philippians 4:4
·
Materials: Tube puppet pictures of Peter
and the Crippled Man in your packet for letter Jj week. Cut the pictures apart for easy use. Tape them to a window or tray while telling
the story. The * will help you know when
to move or add figures.
·
We’ve
already met some of Jesus’ special helpers.
Remember Peter and John?* One day
Peter and John walking to the temple-church.*
·
There
sitting by the temple-church was a man* who could not walk. Every day he sat by the temple-church and
talked to the people who walked by on their way to worship. He would ask them to give him some money.
·
When
Peter and John walked by,* he asked them for some money too. Peter and John stopped and looked at the
man. Peter talked to him. Peter said, “I don’t have any money.”
·
The man got a sad look on his face. Then Peter said, “I have something better for
you.” The man thought to himself, What
could be better than money? Peter took
hold of the man’s hand. Peter said, “Jesus
can make your legs and feet strong. In
the name of Jesus, get up and walk.”
·
And
he did. The man who could not walk stood
up.* Exchange the crippled man for
the rejoicing man. Jesus made his
legs and feet strong. They were so
strong he could run and jump and jump and run. * The man was running and jumping and
shouting, “Thank You, Jesus! Thank You, Jesus! “
·
The
people inside the temple-church were very surprised. They stared at the man. They thought, Isn’t this the man who sits
outside the temple-church asking for money?
They stared at Peter and John, wondering how Peter and John were able to
make the man walk.
·
Peter said, “We didn’t make this man
walk. Jesus did. You remember Jesus. Jesus is the Savior God promised to
send. Jesus came to suffer and die to
take away all your sins. God will help
you to be sorry for the bad things you do.
God will forgive you. You can be
God’s joyful, forgiven children too.
·
“See
how strong God is,” Peter said. “He made
this man walk again. He will help you
too.” Many people believed Jesus was their
Savior. They became God’s joyful
forgiven people.
·
Review Questions: What gave Peter and John joy? Show the man who could not walk. Ask, What gave this man joy? What gave the people in the temple-church
joy? What gives us joy? Yes, we have joy in Jesus. We have joy in knowing that Jesus loves us—no
matter what—and that He died for us and came alive.
Prayer: Dear God, help us rejoice knowing that we
are Your forgiven children. In Jesus
name we pray. Amen.
