Math: Graphing Game---Pocket Change
·
Materials: Pennies, nickels, a sheet of
graph paper from your bag
·
Have your child pretend to be a banker and you
get to be a customer.
·
As the banker your child will need the sheet of
graph paper placed on a table in front of him/her.
·
As the “customer,” hand your child a mixture of
pennies and nickels.
·
As the “banker,” your child must sort the
“customer’s” pocket change by creating a real graph with the pennies and
nickels. (Help your child as necessary.)
·
Have the “banker” state which coin there is more
of based on the graph.
·
Play several times with different amounts of
change and take turns, with your child being the customer and you being the
banker.

Project: From the bag of supplies -
·
Locate the egg carton strip.
·
Paint or decorate the strip to transform it into
a caterpillar.
·
In the small Ziploc bag, in your bigger bag,
there is a short black pipe cleaner. You
will need this to create your caterpillar’s antennae. After your caterpillar is dry, have a grown
up use a nail to carefully poke 2 holes though the top of your caterpillar’s
head. Bend the pipe cleaner in
half. With the 2 ends pointing upward
and pinching the looped part of the pipe cleaner with your fingers, place the
cut ends of the pipe cleaner under the holes in the egg carton. Push the pipe cleaner through the holes. The loop should be underneath and the 2 ends
should be sticking out on top. Give the
ends of the pipe cleaner a twist together so that the “antennae” stay in place.
Give the ends of the “antennae” a slight bend if you like. Save your caterpillar somewhere safe. We will be transforming him into a beautiful
butterfly during letter B week.
