Materials and Manipulatives: crayons, paper, 15 red connecting cubes and
15 yellow connecting cubes (Your manipulatives may be different.)
·
Have your child find all the possible two-color
combinations for making 5 and model them using connecting cubes. You should have several cube trains of 5
cubes.
·
Now, have your child order the combinations in
ascending and descending order – from least to greatest or vice versa,
illustrating that as one group grows the other gets smaller. Assist your child as needed.
·
Finally, have your child draw a picture that
shows a way to make 5 out of two different-colored groups. If your child needs assistance, have him/her
use connecting cubes to make a concrete model before drawing his/her picture.

Bible Story: Philip and the Ethiopian (Acts 8:26-40)
Memory Work: Now we are children of God. 1 John 3:2
Preparation:
Today as you tell the Bible story, you will be asking some questions so
that your child can help in the retelling.
Tell: Philip was a man who told about Jesus
wherever he went, even when he was walking through the desert. On that day,
Philip saw a very important man riding in a fine chariot.
Ask: I
wonder…who was that man? (Pause)
Tell: The
man was traveling to his home in Africa.
He worked there for the queen of Ethiopia. As he was riding on the long way home,
he was reading from the Bible.
Philip walked
alongside the chariot. He asked the man
from Africa if he understood what he was reading. The man said, “Please ride in my
chariot. Tell me what the Bible verse
means.”
Ask: I
wonder…did Philip get in that chariot? (Pause)
Tell: Philip
told the queen’s helper that the words were about Jesus. Philip told him that Jesus died on the cross
to take away our sins. Philip told him
that Jesus came alive again on Easter and that Jesus promises us eternal life
in heaven. The man from Africa believed
in Jesus as his Savior.
Ask: I
wonder…what happened next? (Pause)
Tell: The
Ethiopian stopped the chariot when he saw some fresh water near the road. He asked if he could be baptized.
Philip
baptized the man in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy
Spirit. The man from Africa was so happy
to know Jesus and be a part of God’s family.
When he got home to Africa, he would tell his family, friends, and
others about the love of Jesus our Savior.
Tell: Water
is very important, especially when it’s put together with God’s Word. Let’s thank God for water!
Prayer: Dear God, Thank You for water in raindrops;
Thank You for water to use. Thank You
for water to baptize me and for saying, “I love you!” Amen.
*Remember, you can do a little or a lot. These are suggestions to help your child stay
on track for Kindergarten in this challenging time. Mrs. Sistrunk and I appreciate any of your
efforts.
