Thursday, May 28, 2020

1.       Things to do every day.
a.       Read for 20 minutes.
b.       Practice writing your name.
c.       Calendar work
d.       Enjoy a Bible story.

2.       Let’s Get Ready: Tools you will need to do your work.
a.       Pencil
b.       Crayons and/or Colored Pencils
c.       Scissors
d.       Glue Stick
e.       Manipulatives (These are items that your child can count, sort, make patterns with, and so on.  For example: color crayons, Easter eggs, erasers, paper clips, clothes pins, Legos – be creative.

3.       Signature Card – Locate the vertical half sheet of paper.  Have your child write his/her name on it in his/her best handwriting.  This is the final signature card of the year.  Good work!

4.       Review:
·         Locate the paper with four pictures and the words Springtime Rhymes in the bottom left picture.  Have your child follow the directions at the bottom of the page to make the booklet.
·         Next, locate the paper with the words B is for Bubble.  Have your child follow the directions at the top of this page to complete the page.

5.       Math:   Subtracting From  5

Materials and Manipulatives:  Use the story book by Eileen Christelow or say the finger play Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed.  Give your child 5 connecting cubes or other counters to place on a red piece of paper (the bed) and a brown piece of paper (the chair).
·         As you read the story or say the finger play, your child starts with 5 monkeys (cubes) on the bed.
·         When one monkey fall off, your child places is on the chair (5 take away 1 is 4 monkeys on the bed).

·         Continue in a like manner until there are no monkeys on the bed (5 take away 5 is 0).

·         Pose other problems in which your child subtracts from 5 or fewer objects.

·         Continue to practice by making a number line (1-5) on the floor.  Have your child stand on the five while you call out a number between 0 and 5.  Your child must jump backward the number of spaces you indicated and then identify which number he/she landed on.  Play several more  times.

·         Now create story problems with your child using subtraction.  Have your child use manipulatives to model the stories.  For example, say, “If there are five ladybugs on a flower and four fly away, how many are left on the flower?”  If your child is able to solve problems with objects up to five easily, increase the amount of objects.

6.       Project Approach:
·         Look for the bugs that you want to go out and study.
·         Materials you may need:  magnifying glass, gloves, garden shovel, tweezers, container to capture a specimen, etc.
·         Possible Bug Homes:  under rocks or logs, on plants or leaves, in trees or hives, beside puddles, in the grass, in the dirt, etc.
·         Record where you find your bugs and the kind of bugs you find in your bug journal.  Draw pictures if you like.
·         *All insects are bugs, but not all bugs are insects.

7.       Bible Story:  Paul’s Conversion (Acts 9:1-22)

Memory Work:  Your sins have been forgiven.  1 John 2:12

Materials:  Place a small cross in a gift-wrapped box.  Wrap the lid separately from the lower section or use a gift bag.  Tell the story and do the actions indicated. Have your child repeat the actions.  Designate two additional areas to move to (the road and the city of Damascus).

Jesus told His helper, “Go and tell people about Me.  Tell them God loves them.”  Move your arms in sweeping motion.  So Jesus’ helpers went and told people , “Jesus loves you.”  Say to each other, “Jesus loves you.”  One man did not like what was happening.  He was mean to Jesus’ helpers.  Make an angry face and shake you fist.  The man’s name was Paul.  One day Paul traveled to another city.  He wanted to capture people who were Christians and make them his prisoners.  Pretend to get on a horses.  Gallop to another section of the room.

Suddenly a bright light came from the sky.  Paul fell to the ground.  Fall to your knees and look up.  Shield your eyes as if there were a bright light.  Paul heard a voice.  The voice said, “Why are you hurting Me, Paul?”  Stand, cup your hands around your mouth, and repeat Jesus’ words.  Paul was surprised.  He asked, “Who are You, Lord?”  Look surprised; repeat Paul’s words.  The voice said, “I am Jesus.”  Cup your hands around your mouth again and repeat Jesus’ words.  Jesus told Paul, “Go to the city and wait.  Someone will come to you.”  Point toward the “city.”
The bright light was gone.  But Paul could not see.  His friends led him to the city.  Have your child close his/her eyes and take his/her hand and lead him/her toward the “city.”  Paul waited for three days.  Hold up three fingers.  He thought about Jesus.  He said to Jesus, “I am sorry I hurt You.  Please forgive me.”  Sit very quietly; repeat Paul’s words.

Then Ananias came.  He told Paul, “God has chosen you to tell people about Jesus.”  Point to each other and repeat Ananias’s words.  Paul was baptized in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.  Pretend to dip and pour water three times as you say again, “In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”  Paul told many, many people, “Jesus loves you.”  Tell each other, “Jesus loves you.”

Say, At first, Paul didn’t know that God has a special gift He wants to give everyone.  Show the gift-wrapped box.  Let’s pretend it’s a secret.  In a whisper voice say, It’s a cross.  A cross reminds us Jesus loves us so much He died on the cross to take away our sins.  We don’t want to keep this a secret.  We can tell lots of people about God’s love for us in Christ Jesus.

Sing the following to the tune of “A Tisket, a Tasket.”
A secret, a secret, I have a happy secret .
God loves me and you can see, I’m as happy as can be.
A secret, a secret, tell everyone this secret.
God loves me and God loves you!  Yes, it’s really, really true!

Prayer:  Dear Jesus, give me someone I can tell about Your love.  In Your name I pray.  Amen.

*Remember, you can do a little or a lot.  These are suggestions to help your child stay on track for Kindergarten in this challenging time.  Mrs. Sistrunk and I appreciate any of your efforts.
