Homework for Tuesday, May 5, 2020 Day #146

Tuesday, May 5, 2020

1.       Things to do every day.
a.       Read for 20 minutes.
b.       Practice writing your name.
c.       Calendar work
d.       Enjoy a Bible story.

2.       Let’s Get Ready: Tools you will need to do your work.
a.       Pencil
b.       Crayons and/or Colored Pencils
c.       Scissors
d.       Glue Stick
e.       Manipulatives (These are items that your child can count, sort, make patterns with, and so on.  For example: color crayons, Easter eggs, erasers, paper clips, clothes pins, Legos – be creative.

3.       Letter “Jj” Handwriting– Locate the paper with the lowercase letter “Jj”.  Before your child writes on the paper, have him/her make the shape of the lowercase letter j in the air (Cloud Writing).  Have your child “Cloud Write” the letter 5 times.  Then trace over the letter on the paper with his/her finger.  Now, get your pencil.  Start at the dot at the top of the letter and carefully make the letter.  Take your time making your letter carefully, trying to stay inside the lines. Don’t forget to put the dot above your lowercase j.  Color the pictures at the bottom of the page.  Scribbling is not acceptable at this point in the school year.   Remind your child to use at least 3 colors.

4.       Cinco de Mayo: Share a little bit about this holiday.
·         Find the paper that has the words “Two Amigos” on it and instructions for how to use the paper stapled to it.
·         Instruct your child to write his/her name on the line indicated.  Begin reading the directions to your child.  Give your child time to locate the appropriate crayon and complete the given direction; but keep moving along.  (It’s not supposed to take all day.  Count slowly to 5, see how much of the direction is completed.  If more time is necessary, allow more time.)

5.       Math:  Real Graphs—Game
·         If the weather is nice, I would play this game outside.
·         Suggested Materials: masking tape or sidewalk chalk, 5 bean bags or rolled socks, two laundry baskets, red and blue paper squares or other items to record your results.
·         To explain the game, I’m going to refer to the items suggested in my teacher book.  Your game will likely be different, but the result should be a fun time.
·         Set up:  Make a two-column graph on the floor or ground using masking tape or sidewalk chalk.  Label the left column red and the right column blue.  Label one basket red and one blue.
·         Put your baskets an appropriate distance for at least some bean bags to land inside the basket when tossed.
·         Begin with the basket labeled red.  Have your child toss all 5 bean bags.  Count how many landed in the red basket and record it on the left column labeled red on your graph.  If you are outside you could use rocks as markers.  Your child would place one rock in the red column for each bean bag that landed in the red basket.
·         Gather your bean bags, set up your blue basket, repeat tossing.  Have your child record the number of bean bags that landed in the blue basket using the right column on the graph.
·         Have your child use the graph to answer questions of more, less, and the same when refering to the bean bags.
·         Give other family members turns and have your child record the results.  Then have your child answer questions about the resulting graphs.

6.       Bible Story:  Peter and the Crippled Man (Acts 3)

Memory work: “Rejoice in the Lord always.  I will say it again: Rejoice!”   Philippians 4:4

Say or sing the song “Rejoice in the Lord Always.”

Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, Rejoice.
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, Rejoice.
Rejoice, rejoice; again I say, Rejoice.
Rejoice, rejoice; again I say, Rejoice.
Rejoice in the Lord always; again I say, Rejoice.

The verse says “Rejoice in the Lord.”  Why can we rejoice in Jesus?  What does Jesus do to give you joy?  Give your child time to think.  Some possible reasons could be: Jesus died for us; Jesus took away our sins; Jesus is alive; God made the world; God gives us(created things; our bodies, eyes, ears; family members, friends; school, home); we’re God’s friends.  Make a list of the ideas your child suggests on paper.  Finally say, Wow! What a lot of reasons to have joy in our hearts.  Let’s sing or say the joyful song again.

Place the list of reasons to be joyful where you can see it. We are reminded that even during this time of separation God gives us reasons to have joy in our hearts.

Prayer:  Thank You, God, for making me Your joyful and forgiven child through Jesus our Savior.  Amen.
