a.       Pencil
b.       Crayons and/or Colored Pencils
c.       Scissors
d.       Glue Stick
e.       Manipulatives (These are items that your child can count, sort, make patterns with, and so on.  For example: color crayons, Easter eggs, erasers, paper clips, clothes pins, Legos – be creative.

3.       Letter “Bb” Handwriting– Locate the paper with the lowercase letter “Bb”.  Before your child writes on the paper, have him/her make the shape of the lowercase letter in the air (Cloud Writing).  Have your child “Cloud Write” the letter 5 times.  Then trace over the letter on the paper with his/her finger.  Now, get your pencil.  Start at the dot at the top of the letter and carefully make the letter.  Take your time making your letter carefully, trying to stay inside the lines.  Color the pictures at the bottom of the page.  Scribbling is not acceptable at this point in the school year.   Remind your child to use at least 3 colors.

4.       Cutting Practice: Locate the paper with the words, B is for Busy Bears printed at the top of the page.  Have your child write his/her name on the line indicated.  Next have your child follow the directions to complete the page.  Watch for careful cutting and proper scissor grip.

5.       Math:  Adding to 5
·         Suggested Materials: dominoes, paper bag, crayons, paper
·         Manipulatives:  connecting cubes
·         Listening Vocabulary:  part, whole, altogether, add
·         For the purpose of explanation, I’m going to refer to the items suggested in my teacher book.
·         NOTE:  Use manipulatives that you have at home.  Make adjustments as necessary.
·         Let’s Begin:  Show your child a domino that has five dots altogether.  Identify the number of dots on each part of the domino.  Tell your child that the two parts make a whole and that shows five dots in all.
·         Help your child find the dominoes that have only five dots.  Arrange the dominoes horizontally.
·         Point out that a domino is divided into two parts(sides).  Have your child locate and count the number of dots on both sides—left and right—of each domino.
·         How many dots are on the left?   Sample answer: four
·         How many dots are on the right?  Sample answer: one
·         How many dots altogether?  five
·         On paper, record all the possible left side and right side combinations that total five when you add them together.
·         Refer back to your list as your child finds more possible combinations.
·         We Practice:
·         Place thirty red and yellow connecting cubes inside a paper bag. (Fifteen red and fifteen yellow)
·         Instruct your child to close his/her eyes, reach inside the bag, and count out a set of five cubes.
·         Allow your child to recount them to verify that there are five altogether.
·         Have your child connect the cubes to make a train.
·         Allow your child to count how many cubes are red and how many are yellow.
·         Let your child construct additional yellow and red connecting cube trains of five until the bag is empty.
·         Compare the resulting trains.  Do they all have 2 colors?  Are they all different?  Are any of the trains the same?

6.       Bible Story:  Philip and the Ethiopian (Acts 8:26-40)

Memory work: Now we are children of God.  1 John 3:2

Today you will use an echo pantomime to tell to tell the story.  First you will say a line and do the action.  Have your child repeat the line and action.  (Ask any other family members to assist, or you can repeat the line and action with your child.

Philip was walking along one day.
        Walk in place.
He saw a chariot coning his way.
Hold your hand above your eyes.
He looked and saw a man inside,
        Point to the distance.
Who had a Bible opened wide.
        Pretend to hold a scroll.
“Who is Jesus?”  asked the man.
        Shrug your shoulders.
So, Philip told of God’s great plan:
        Fold your hands.
How on the cross our Savior died,
Make a cross with two fingers.
And in God’s name we are baptized.
        Point up to heaven.
The man believed in Jesus too!
        Cross hands over heart.
“I will be baptized just like you.”
        Nod yes.
So, Philip baptized him there and then.
Cup your hand as if pouring water.
For he loved Jesus, our Savior and Friend.
        Hug yourself.
We are all God’s children too
Sweep hands in a wide motion.
He loves me, and He loves you.
Point to yourself; point to each other.

Responsive Prayer—Practice the response with your child before you pray the prayer.  Point to him/her and have him/her say:  Thank You, God, thank You.

Prayer:
Parent:  For loving us in every way.
Child: Thank You, God, thank You.
Parent:  For taking all our sins away.
Child:  Thank You, God, thank You.
Parent:  Your own dear children we will be,
Child:  Thank You, God, thank You.
Parent:  Now and in eternity.
Child:  Thank You, God, thank You.
Parent and Child:  Amen.
