Tuesday, March 31, 2020

1.       Things to do every day.
a.       Read for 20 minutes.
b.       Practice writing your name.
c.       Calendar work
d.       Enjoy a Bible story.

2.       Let’s Get Ready: Tools you will need to do your work.
a.       Pencil
b.       Crayons and/or Colored Pencils
c.       Scissors
d.       Glue Stick
e.       Manipulatives (These are items that your child can count, sort, make patterns with, and so on.  For example: color crayons, Easter eggs, erasers, paper clips, clothes pins, legos – be creative.

3.       Letter “Ee” Handwriting– Locate the paper with the lowercase letter “Ee”.  Before your child writes on the paper, have him/her make the shape of the lowercase letter E in the air(Cloud Writing).  Have your child “Cloud Write” the letter 5 times.  Then trace over the letter on the paper with his/her finger.  Now, get your pencil.  Start at the dot in the middle of the letter, follow the arrow carefully curving up toward the dotted line on the paper.   It’s a short, curvy letter, so take your time making your letter carefully, trying to stay inside the lines.  Color the pictures at the bottom of the page.  Remind your child to do careful work and use at least 3 colors.

4.       Math:  Seriation (a process whereby your child will order a series of objects from tallest to shortest, shortest to longest, or vice versa.)
·         To begin today, give your child 2 blue, 3 yellow and 4 red connecting cubes, legos, etc.
·         Instruct your child to sort the connecting cubes by color and connect the cubes of the same color to make towers
·         Have your child stand the blue in front of him/her.  Then stand the red tower to the right of the blue tower.
·         Ask your child to point to the shortest tower and then the tallest tower
·         Have your child stand the yellow tower near the blue and red towers.
·         Tell your child that the one that stands up higher or bigger than the others is the tallest.  It is taller than the others.
·         Using the same procedure with the blue tower explain shortest and shorter than.
·         Tell your child that the towers can be put in order from shortest to tallest.  Show the towers in this order.
·         Ask:  Which tower is the tallest?
·         Ask:  Which one is the shortest?
·         Ask:  Which tower is in the middle?
·         Lay the towers flat and reteach this concept using the terms longer than and shorter than.

·         Practice:  Have your child gather a set of three different objects from around the house and order them by size.  Give your child a piece of paper folded into thirds.  Have your child draw the objects, one in each section.  Help your child label each item with an appropriate size word.

5.       Bible Story:  Easter (Luke 24:1-12)
Today you will help your child act out the story as an echo pantomime.  Have your child simply repeat your words and actions.
Long ago when Jesus died.
Make a cross with two fingers.
His friends were very sad.
Make a sad face; trace the path of tears with your fingers.
They missed Him very much, you know;
                Raise your index finger.
The world seemed cold and bad.
                Pretend to shiver.
On Sunday morning women went
                Walk in place.
To visit Jesus’ grave.
Make a tombstone with your fingers and thumbs.
Very slowly they walked up
                Walk slowly in place.
To look into the cave.
                Tiptoe in place.
Pause and invite your child to wonder about what will happen next in the story.
Then they could see the stone was gone!
                Look surprised.
An angel’s message said,
Hands beside mouth as if announcing.
“Lord Jesus Christ is now alive!”
Trace a smile on your face with your fingers.
He’s risen from the dead.
                Hands raised high.
The day seemed so dark and sad
Shake your head as you make a sad face.
Now shone with glory bright!
Raise your hands above your head.
For Jesus’ love made all things new;
                Sweep hands around.
It was a happy sight!
                Shake hands with family.
Pause again.  Invite your child to tell you how he/she feels knowing that Jesus died for them but is now alive.  Then continue the poem.
Jesus makes our days so bright.
                Point to yourself.
His love shines ‘round us too
                Sweep your hands around.
We thank You, Jesus, for Your love,
                Fold your hands.
And all the things You do!
Hold your hands out to your side.
There is more happy news to hear.
Cup your hands behind your ears.
For all of us today!
                Point to each other.
Because our Jesus has arisen,
                Lift your hands up.
We’ll live with Him someday!
                Point up to heaven.
Prayer:  Dear Jesus, thank you for dying and rising for me.  I know you are taking care of me and my family.  Help me to trust you more and more every day.  Amen.
