Bible Story: The Great Commission (Matthew 28:16-20)
Memory work: Go… and tell the good
news to all. Mark 16:15
·
Have your child gather a “crowd” of dolls and/or
stuffed animals for this week’s Bible story.
You will also need a picture of Jesus with His arms extended.
·
Say, Jesus had been on earth with His friends a
long time. He had healed sick
people. He had told everyone about God’s
love, and He had died on the cross for everyone’s sins. He had become alive again, and now He was
getting ready to go back to heaven.
·
Jesus wanted to tell His friends about a very
important job He wanted them to do after He went back to heaven. So Jesus went to the top of a mountain and
told His friends to come too. (Make sure
your animals and dolls are gathered around.)
·
When they were all together on the top of the
mountain, Jesus stretched out His arms (stretch out your arms) and said, “You
are My followers and friends! Go and
tell other people about Me so that they can be My followers too! I will be with you always!”
·
Ask: Where did Jesus go? (Up a mountain to the top) Who went with Him? (His friends) What did Jesus tell His friends while they
were there? (“You are My followers and friends!
Go and tell other people about Me so that they can be my followers
too! I will be with you always!”)
·
The Bible tells us lots of stories about how
Jesus’ friends did just what He told them to do. After Jesus went back to heaven, they told
everyone the good news about how much Jesus loves them. We are also friends of Jesus! He asks us to tell other the good news
too! He says, “Go…and tell the good news
to all.” Th good news is Jesus’ love. Whom can you tell about Jesus’ love?
Prayer: Dear Jesus, You are a very special
Friend. We want to tell others all about
Your love. Amen.
