Homework for Thursday, April 16,2020 Day #133

Thursday, April 16, 2020

1.       Things to do every day.
a.       Read for 20 minutes.
b.       Practice writing your name.
c.       Calendar work
d.       Enjoy a Bible story.

2.       Let’s Get Ready: Tools you will need to do your work.
a.       Pencil
b.       Crayons and/or Colored Pencils
c.       Scissors
d.       Glue Stick
e.       Manipulatives (These are items that your child can count, sort, make patterns with, and so on.  For example: color crayons, Easter eggs, erasers, paper clips, clothes pins, legos – be creative.

3.       Letter “Rr” Handwriting– Locate the paper with the lowercase letter “Rr”.  Before your child writes on the paper, have him/her make the shape of the lowercase letter r in the air(Cloud Writing).  Have your child “Cloud Write” the letter 5 times.  Then trace over the letter on the paper with his/her finger.  Now, get your pencil.  Start at the dot at the top of the letter and carefully make the letter.  Take your time making your letter carefully, trying to stay inside the lines.  Color the pictures at the bottom of the page.  Scribbling is not acceptable at this point in the school year.   Remind your child to use at least 3 colors.

4.       Math: Area Game
Materials:  Have your child gather several blankets of various sizes.

To Play:  You will need two people to play this game, if you only have one child, you will get to play too.  Choose a blanket to completely cover one of you and the other person is not completely covered.  Sing the following song: (Sung to the tune of “Muffin Man”)
Oh, do you know who’s covered more, covered more, covered more
Oh, do you know who’s covered more, which blanket has more area?
Have your child decide which of you is covered more.  Test other blankets on other people or things (stuffed animals, toys, etc.) to see which blankets cover more and which cover less.  If you have an area rug(s) in your house, you can talk about the floor space that it covers.

Review:  Practice nesting sets of measuring cups and spoons.  Then place them in order from smallest to largest.

5.       Bible Story:  The Emmaus Disciples (Luke 24:13-35)

Materials: You will need 3 simple pictures, either draw them or print them, one of your school or a school, your church or a church, and finally a picture of your house or a house.  Place these pictures throughout your house or around the yard, so that you can go for a “walk”.

Today’s activities will help your child realize that there are many places where big and little people learn about Jesus and more of God’s love.
Repeat the action poem from yesterday with these modifications.

The children were walking, walking, walking.  (Pretend to walk.)
The children were talking, talking, talking.  (Pretend to talk.)
The children could see, see, see (Point to your eyes.)
That Jesus loves you and me.  (Point to others, point to yourself.)

Tell your child, “Today we are going for a walk to find places where big people and little people go to learn about Jesus.  Repeat the action poem above as you walk around.  Walk to the school picture.  Talk about how the children in your school learn about Jesus every day.   Walk to the church picture.  Point out that Sunday school is another place to learn about Jesus.  Remind your child that people of all ages come to church to learn about Jesus and praise Him.  Continue on your walk to the house picture.  Explain that we can learn about Jesus in our own homes.  Go back to where you began your “walk”.  School is one of many special places where we can learn about Jesus.  Say, “We continue to learn about Jesus and His love for us in many places.  Open your Bible and read the words from 2 Timothy 3:14: “Continue in what you have learned.”  God loves us so much, and we want to keep on learning about how much He loves us.

Prayer:  Today is a responsive prayer
Parent: Whenever we go to school.
Child: Help us to learn about Jesus.
Parent: Whenever we go to church.
Child: Help us to learn about Jesus.
Parent: Whenever we are at home.
Child: Help us to learn about Jesus.
                All: Amen.

Have fun with your work!   We miss you and wish we could be there with you to watch you make discoveries this week.  Keep up the good job, mom and dad.  We really CAN’T do this without your HELP!!  You are amazing!!!! 😊
