Bible Story: Dorcas (Acts 9:36-43)
Memory work: Do not forget.
. . to share with others. Hebrews 13:16
·
Materials: A doll to represent
Dorcas. Two paper hearts to tape over
Dorcas’ hands.
·
Sit
around the Dorcas doll with the hearts covering the doll’s hands.
·
Say, This is Dorcas. Today our Bible story will tell us about all
the ways that Dorcas gave to other people.
But I will need your help. Whenever
I lift up Dorcas’ hand it will be your turn to sing a song. Teach this song to the tune of “Did You
Ever See a Lassie?”
Dorcas was a helper, a helper,
a helper.
Dorcas was a helper;
She loved everyone.
She loved them and helped
them.
She loved them and helped
them.
Dorcas was a helper;
She loved everyone.
·
A long time ago there was a woman who loved
Jesus very much. Her name was
Dorcas. Dorcas had heard how Jesus died
on the cross and rose again. She believed
that God had sent Jesus to be her Savior, that He died and became alive again
for her. Dorcas was happy that Jesus was
her Friend. She was happy because God
had given her so much love. Because
Jesus loved her, she wanted to love and give to other people. Hold up Dorcas’ hand. Sing with your child.
·
Sometimes
Dorcas would see children and grown-ups wearing clothes that were old and worn
out. Sometimes there were even holes in
their clothes! So, Dorcas would go home
and make them new clothes to wear. Because
Jesus loved her so much she wanted to love and give to other people too. Hold up Dorcas’ hand. Sing with your child.
·
Jesus
loves you too. Jesus died and became alive
again for you and me. Jesus gives us
love so that, just like Dorcas, we can be helpers and share God’s good gifts with
other people. There are lots of people
who need help every day. Jesus helps us
to share His love and His good gifts with other people.
Sing another stanza, using these
words:
I can be a helper, a helper, a
helper.
I can be a helper
And love everyone.
I’ll love them and help them.
I’ll love them and help them.
I can be a helper
And love everyone.
Do
the following action poem.
God
gives us good things every day,
Move hands from in front of
you, palms up, toward yourself.
Like food to eat,
Pretend to eat.
Like clothes to wear.
Pretend to put on clothes.
God helps us share.
Move hands from yourself toward
others, palms up.
God gives us good things every day,
Move hands from in front of
you, palms up, toward yourself.
Like toys for play,
Pretend to bounce a ball.
Like beds for sleep.
Rest head on folded hands.
God helps us share.
Move hands from yourself toward
others, palms up.
God gives us good things every day,
Move hands from in front of
you, palms up, toward yourself.
Like Jesus’ love,
Place hands over heart.
Like Jesus’ care.
Hug yourself.
God helps us share.
Move hands from yourself
toward others, palms up.
Prayer: Dear Jesus, help us to put on Your love
every day. May Your love help us to be
giving and thoughtful and kind in all we do and in all we say. Amen.
