·         Instruct your child to draw a self-portrait to give to his/her future Kindergarten teacher.
·         Record your child’s responses from the “Data About Me” on his/her self-portrait.

5.       Bible Story:  Jesus’ Ascension (Acts 1:3-12; Matthew 28:20)

Memory work: Jesus said, “I am with you always.”  Matthew 28:20.

Find the paper with the 4 pictures and the words Jesus’ Ascension at the top of the page.  Cut them apart and use the pictures to help tell the Bible story this week.  You could tape them to a tray or a window or use magnets and a cookie sheet to display the figures while you tell the story.
Say, We have learned many stories about Jesus.  We know that He died on a cross so that we can be forgiven when we do wrong.  We know that Jesus came alive on Easter because He is God and can do all things.  We know that Jesus had helpers who worked with Him and learned from Him and loved Him.

As you continue the Bible narrative, tape the figure of Jesus and the disciples on the window or use magnets to attach them to a cookie sheet.

Jesus’ helpers were so happy that Jesus was with them and that He was alive.  But Jesus knew it was time to go back to heaven.  What do people usually say when they leave you and go back home? (Good-bye) But Jesus didn’t say good-bye to His friends.  Listen to what Jesus said: “I am with you always.”

Move the Jesus figure up as you read or tell the next segment.  Say, It was time to leave, but Jesus didn’t walk away.  He began to rise up in the sky.  He could do this because He is God.  Place the cloud over the Jesus figure.  Jesus’ helpers watched until a cloud got in their way.  Now they could no longer see Jesus.

Add two angel figures and say, Two angels asked Jesus’ friends, “Why are you so surprised?  Jesus has the power to go up to heaven and come back.”  Jesus’ helpers could no longer see Jesus, but they know He was still with them.

Even though you and I can’t see Him, Jesus is with us now, watching over us and taking care of us.  Jesus is God.  He is everywhere.

Review Story Facts:
Who was with Jesus when He walked up the mountain? (His helpers) What happened to Jesus as He was talking to His helpers? (Suddenly He began to rise into the sky, and a cloud covered Him.)  Who appeared to Jesus’ helpers as they looked up into the sky? (Two angels) What good news did the angels tell the helpers? (Jesus will come again.) Who is always with you? (Jesus)

Prayer:  Thank You, Jesus, for always being with me wherever I am.  Amen.
